Today in "the fans don't know shit," Shoryuken did a poll.
That wasn't the biggest headline of the day, though. Here's the really crushing news from the SRK poll:
Is it because he's a cooler version of E. Honda? (Seriously, compare their move sets.) Are all of you people Honda players who are jealous?
Is it because he had dumb left/right mixups in the previous iteration of the game, including a 50/50 raw ultra mixup on wakeup? As though nobody else in the game has dumb left/right mixups or dumb wakeup pressure? Don't eeeeeeeven start with that shit.
Is it because you don't know how to pronounce his name? It's "blohn-kuh," not "blang-kuh." Easy.
Is it because everyone is a fan of the Jean-Claude van Damme Street Fighter movie, in which "Charlie [Nash] is amalgamated with the character of Blanka to form the character Carlos 'Charlie' Blanka"? And, like, now you're upset because SFV is gonna have both Nash and Blanka in it? I sure hope not. I sure hope that's not it.
Is it because he's a feral Muppet? Because, okay, that one I would understand.
Or is it just because you all just hate Ono-san and the tiny Blanka figurine that he always carries around with him?
Because that's not appropriate, friends. Ono-san isn't perfect, and it's definitely at little, shall we say, intriguing that he's always carrying around a tiny Blanka with him.
...like, always.
At all times.
Even when he's mimicking another character's moves.
I admit, that's really fucking weird. (On the USA scale, that is. On the Japan scale, it's maybe a 4 out of 10.) But still, that's no reason to be mad at Blanka. Hell, Blanka isn't even Ono's favorite character anymore - now he's into R. Mika.
So chill with the Blanka hate, everyone. I love Sagat, too, but let's save some of those warm fuzzies for the only character in the game who is actually both warm and fuzzy.
"There is a lot of dispute as to what characters had the best tools in Season 2, and who was rendered near-useless. But the power of an Evo win propels Akuma to the top spot in strength, while F.A.N.G is still agreed upon as the lowest of the low tiers. Balrog was seen as a frightening opponent, and the Turbulent Wind's abilities are being recognized; meanwhile poor Ryu, Juri, and Alex were near-lost causes this season, in your view. Abigail, however, is a point of contention, considered both strongest and weakest respectively by multiple voters!"First of all, you have to expect a little wonkiness when you try to work out a tier list, because tier lists don't actually, like, make sense. But if you're gonna do it, you might as well do it right: Boxer was mid-tier at best, Juri wasn't actually all that bad, and Abigail very obviously can't be both top-tier and bottom-tier at the same time. So, uh, yeah. Tier lists are hard to make, people aren't great at judging the strength of characters, blah blah.
That wasn't the biggest headline of the day, though. Here's the really crushing news from the SRK poll:
"Which SFV Season 3 character addition are you most looking forward to?Really, everyone? Really? You're hating on Blanka? WHY!
The return of the King of Muay Thai is eagerly anticipated; Sagat takes 28.57% of the total responses — too bad we have to wait until the end of Season 3 to get him. Sakura and Cody both have a healthy fanbase ready for their return, while it looks like we're not quite sold on Falke or G yet — and why should we be? We barely know anything about them. And at 8.27%, only a small slice of players out there are looking forward to Blanka's return to Street Fighter… he might be the DLC character we'll love to hate this year."
