Has anybody actually won anything after reading Daigo's book?

We all remember this moment, don't we?

How did that go, again? Ah, yes, that's right. "The word of Daigo did not save Patrick, and he lost the next match." In fairness, though, who the fuck is Patrick? (What kind of rapping name is "Steve"?) I can read all the boxing guides in the world, but that won't stop my scawny ass from getting punched into the sun if I ever actually step into the ring. But if a top player picked up Lord Daigo's Fighting Game Bible (TM) and absorbed its sage wisdom, surely that player would reach enlightenment and become an unstoppable, godlike force.

Or, um, not.

That's Keoma, the consensus MVP of the 2015 Capcom Cup. He had a rough time with SFV last year, though, finishing with a grand total of 82 points across 5 tournaments. That wasn't even close to being good enough to qualify him for the 2016 Capcom Cup, although he did at least qualify for the LatAm regionals.

But, see, that was before he picked up The Will to Keep Winning. And, unlike Patrick, we know that Keoma's ceiling is scary-high. So how'd he do this year, I wonder? Let's find out.

Soooooo yeah - that's not so good, is it. Officially he has more points this year, but that's only because Capcom fucked with their scoring system. Using last year's scoring, Keoma would have a little under 60 points so far this year in 4 tournament appearances. What that means, for the math-challenged, is that Keoma's performance post-Daigo's-book is practically indistinguishable from his performance pre-Daigo's-book. Those "answers" that he found? They made no difference. Actually, if anything, he fared worse in 2017, because this time around he failed to qualify for the regionals.

So I'll ask once more: is there any evidence that Daigo's book makes you a better Street Fighter player? Like, ANY? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd read the shit out of that book. Why not? It's probably a fun time, and it probably can't hurt.

It's just, at some point, you kinda have to wonder if it can help.
